For my negative weaving series, I utilized appropriated negatives that were cut into strips, woven, scanned, and printed. These weavings objectify the memories that had yet to be printed and that were discarded, transforming what once had an opportunity to become a printed artifact of personal history into my own infinitely reproducible “quilts.” Throughout history, quilts have been made from collections of precious pieces of fabric woven together to form family heirlooms. My quilts, however, are collections of strangers’ memories, woven together to form objects – the digital prints serve only as documentation of my commodity. By layering the strips, I am forming fragmented compositions that additionally form their own split narratives.
